EAST LANSING – Traverse City West High School was named the top student cheering section in the Battle of the Fans V competition whose five finalists included Munising.

The result was announced Friday that the TCW student cheering section, dubbed the Bleacher Creatures, was tops among Michigan High School Athletic Association schools that participated.

Each finalist, which also included Yale, Charlotte and Muskegon West Michigan Christian, was visited during a home boys basketball game by MHSAA staff and the 16-member Student Advisory Council.

A public vote was conducted on the MHSAA’s Facebook, Twitter and Instragram pages as part of the selection process. The SAC made its decision primarily based on these criteria – positive sportsmanship, student body participation, school spirit, originality of cheers, organization of the group, section leadership and overall fun.
