Northern swimmers swept
GREEN BAY, Wis. – In their final tuneup for the GLIAC championship meet, the Northern Michigan University swimming and diving teams fell to Division I Wisconsin-Green Bay on the road Saturday.
The men dropped a 168-130 decision, while the women fell 159-138.
“We swam well and had several season-best times,” head coach Heidi Voigt said. “We’re ready for the GLIAC championships.”
For the second meet in a row, Ryan Knox-Leonard paced the Wildcats with three wins, claiming the 200 IM (1:54.37), 200 freestyle (1:42.13) and 100 butterfly (51.38) events.
Teammate Janne Roovers took home titles in the 500 (4:43.48) and 1,000 (9:46.79) freestyle races.
On the women’s side, Northern’s Rachel Borchardt was the lone double winner, taking first in the 500 (5:18.01) and 1,000 (10:46.29) freestyles.
Benjamin Lindberg (100 freestyle, 48.85); Savanna Saunders (200 backstroke, 2:04.37); Renars Bundzis (200 backstroke, 1:54.90); Dana Stroven (200 breaststroke, 2:27.76); Marc Perello (200 breaststroke, 2:04.80); Crystal Bennet (100 butterfly, 58.93); and both Northern 400 freestyle relays also scored victories.
