NMU women cagers picked 4th in GLIAC

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in the North Division in the GLIAC preseason poll, the league office announced.

The Wildcats of head coach Troy Mattson picked up 67 points.

Northern will sport two seniors, two juniors, three redshirt freshmen and five freshman on its 13-player roster this season.

Michigan Tech was selected to win the North Division with 110 points and 13 first-place votes.

Grand Valley State came in second with 95 points, while Northwood was picked third with 77 points.

Ashland (Ohio) was chosen to win the South Division with a poll-best 113 points and 14 first-place votes.

Walsh was picked second with 89 points, while Wayne State was slotted in a close third with 84 points.

NMU will open the season Nov. 7 with an exhibition game against Wisconsin-Superior at the PEIF practice gym. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m.
