NMU recruits British golfer

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University is gaining a golfer who’s a native of Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach said Wednesday that Chris Black has been signed to a National Letter of Intent.

“I’m very excited to join such a successful and improving golf program,” Black said in an NMU press release.

Black’s best competitive round came at his home club, Dunmurry. During the Stuart Cup, he shot a 64, good for 6-under-par and a single shot off the course record.

For Friends’ School in Lisburn, Black placed second in Ulster junior stroke play.

He served as Dunmurry Golf Club’s junior team captain and helped the squad capture Belfast and District Cup titles this year.

Black’s strengths are his wedge play and short game, according to Wittenbach.

“He has a tremendous attitude and work ethic, and he will help contribute to the team’s success immediately,” Wittenbach said.
