Wildcats extend win streak to 3

By Journal Sports Staff

FINDLAY, Ohio – Netminder Alexandra Simmons led Northern Michigan University with five saves as the Wildcats women’s soccer team shut out Findlay, 2-0, Friday afternoon on the road.

This marked the third straight victory for NMU after the team opened the season with seven consecutive losses. Northern now stands an even 3-3 in the GLIAC and 3-7 overall.

The Wildcats struck in the 21st minute when Carmen Villarruel was able to connect across the field with Wynona Maravilla for the first goal.

Northern Michigan extended its lead when Raven Mitchell was able to spring free on a breakaway and find the back of the net in the 36th minute.

The Wildcats held a 14-10 shots advantage even though the Oilers had the game’s only two corner kicks. Bre Parrish made just two saves for the Findlay.

The Wildcats look to continue their winning streak while remaining in Ohio when they travel to Tiffin University for a game at noon Sunday. Tiffin lost to Michigan Tech 3-0 on Friday.
