WCHA salutes NMU goalie
MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University goaltender Atte Tolvanen has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week.
The freshman from Vihti, Finland, logged a .930 saves percentage by making 66 stops – tied for most in the nation on opening weekend – on 71 shots in helping Northern open its campaign with a pair of ties on the road at Wisconsin. He also backstopped the team to a shootout win in each game.
Tolvanen made 41 stops Saturday night, including 19 from the start of the third period on.
He also turned back 13 shots in the first period Friday, a stanza in which the Wildcats had only five shots on goal.
