Colla earns GLIAC Commissioner’s winter award

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University senior women’s basketball player Alyssa Colla has been named a recipient of the Commissioner’s Award for the winter in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

This award is presented after the fall, winter and spring athletic seasons to six female and six male GLIAC student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and on their fields of play.

Colla was the second leading scorer in the conference this season, averaging 18.2 points per game while maintaining a 3.91 grade-point average as a public relations major at NMU.

She moved into third place on the Wildcats’ all-time scoring list with 1,567 career points while being named First Team All-GLIAC, First Team All-GLIAC Defense, Daktroniks All-Region, CoSIDA Academic All-District, CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team and earning a spot on the GLIAC Academic Excellence Team.

Colla helped NMU post records of 17-10 overall and 15-7 in the GLIAC while starting all 27 games.
