NMU golfers tied for 3rd

COLUMBUS, Indiana – The Northern Michigan University men’s golf team resides in third place just four strokes out of first place after the first day of the AMFAM Spring Invitational at Otter Creek Golf Club in Indiana on Sunday.

The Wildcats are tied with Northwood, both with a team score of 303. Indianapolis leads after the first day with 299 and Grand Valley State is second with 300.

“The team played great today in cold and windy conditions,” NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach said. “They are all excited to be playing in the final group (today) and having a real shot at winning the tournament.”

Action was delayed due to frost on the course, so three teams were unable to finish the opening round and were scheduled to complete it this morning.

NMU sophomore Emil Lundgren shot a team-low, even-par 72 Sunday and was tied for fourth when action concluded.

Wildcat senior Ayrton Mantha carded a 2-over 74, while freshman Austin Elsner was at 4-over 76. Next for the Wildcats came sophomore Hunter Mires with 81 while sophomore Dustin Dishaw rounded out the five-man squad with 85. Northern junior Alex Palmer carded an 83 competing as an unattached golfer.
