NMU golfers 8th in Indiana

COLUMBUS, Indiana – The Northern Michigan University golf team finished in eighth place out of 15 teams at the two-day AMFAM Spring Invitational meet that wrapped up Monday at the Otter Creek Golf Club in Indiana.

The Wildcats’ four low scores shot 311 during the second day for a total score of 614. Another GLIAC school, Grand Valley State, won with 596.

“We are going to continue to put ourselves in a winning position,” NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach said. “We are happy to be in a position to finish strong which we hope to do this weekend.”

Northern sophomore Emil Lundgren and freshman Austin Elsner tied for 10th place with two-day totals of 150, Elsner shooting a second-day team low of 2-over-par 74 while Lundgren had 78.

Senior teammate Ayrton Mantha had 79 Monday to tie for 31st place with 153, sophomore Hunter Mires shot 81 the second day to tie for 73rd with 162, and sophomore Dustin Dishaw had 80 in his final round to tie for 83rd with 165.

In addition, NMU junior Alex Palmer competed as an unattached golfer and shot 79 on Monday for a two-day total of 162.

NMU returns to action Friday at the Great Lakes Midwest Regional II at Elks Run in Batavia, Ohio.
