Lawrence dominates GLIAC swim

ALLENDALE – Senior swimmer Debbi Lawrence of Northern Michigan University continued a dominating performance in the second day of the GLIAC Championships by setting a pool record in the 100-yard butterfly on Thursday.

The Wildcats remained in third place out of 10 teams in the meet held at Grand Valley State in Allendale.

Lawrence won the event in 55.20 seconds, while junior teammate Crystal Bennet took sixth in 57.05. NMU freshman Abbi Schieber was second in the consolation heat and 10th overall.

The Wildcats’ 400 medley relay team of Lawrence, Bennet, senior Emily Bourguignon and senior Madisen Sechena was second in 3:48.05, good for the NCAA Division II B cut.

Northern’s 200 freestyle relay team of Bourguignon, sophomore Courtney Konopitski, senior Tara Dowling and sophomore Rachel Borchardt was fourth in 1:37.19.

Four Wildcats scored in the 400 individual medley as Sechena was sixth in 4:31.67, while senior Jordan Iverson was seventh in 4:33.85. NMU senior Dakota Sechena won the consolation final and was ninth overall while senior Emily Brennan was third in the consolation final and 11th overall.

Borchardt was sixth in the 200 free in 1:54.35, while Dowling was second in the consolation final and 10th overall.

Today’s third day of the four-day meet begins at 9 a.m.
