Ex-NMU skier captures 3rd

MARQUETTE – Former Northern Michigan University nordic skier Caitlin (Compton) Gregg took home a bronze medal Tuesday in the 10-kilometer freestyle race at the World Championships in Falun, Sweden.

Gregg was part of an historic podium that saw two Americans take home a medal in the same event for the first time ever at a World Championships or Olympic individual cross-country skiing race.

Sweden’s five-time Olympic medalist Charlotte Kalla won the gold medal in 25:08.8 before the American duo of Jessie Diggins and Gregg crossed the line.

Diggins finished in 25:49.8, with Gregg crossing less than six seconds later at 25:55.7.

Gregg was inducted into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 as a two-sport athlete for cross country and nordic skiing from 1999-2002.
