Williams joins NMU swim staff

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University swimming and diving team announced Thursday that it has added a new coach to its staff.

Matt Williams will join the program after serving as the director of competitive swimming and aquatics at the Marquette County YMCA the last six years.

Williams has also served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Wildcats when needed.

Williams was previously head coach at Marquette Senior High School from 1995-2001 and from 2002-07. During his tenure, the girls team was undefeated for a record six straight seasons as it won seven straight state championships. The boys team won nine state titles and had three undefeated seasons under Williams.

He was named the high school Upper Peninsula Swim Coach of the Year in 1998, 2004 and 2007.
