Wildcat women breeze

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team had to come from behind Thursday and ended up coming up short in the end.

Saturday, the Wildcats led from start to finish and cruised past Ferris State 67-52 at the Berry Events Center.

NMU’s Alyssa Colla led all scorers with 21 points, while Lauren Gruber chipped in 19 for the Wildcats.

NMU (8-6, 6-4 GLIAC) used its perimeter game to take control of the game early. The Wildcats shot 6 of 11 from beyond the arc in the first half, with Colla knocking down two of them to give NMU a 33-23 lead at intermission.

In the second half, the Wildcats started off hot again, going on a 7-0 run. Later, a triple from Gruber gave NMU its largest lead of the game at 19 points.
