By Journal Sports Staff

MARQUETTE — Ishpeming, Marquette and Negaunee shared in the winning at the Marquette Relays cross country meet held at Presque Isle Park on Friday.

Ishpeming swept the boys team and individual — or more accurately, duo — crowns. The Hematites scored 10 points to 20 for runner-up Marquette and 25 for third-place Gladstone.

Negaunee was fourth with 52, Westwood fifth with 59 and Gwinn sixth with 81.

Ishpeming also claimed the tandem with the fastest time, Spencer Giroux and Jonas Broberg in 31 minutes, 52 seconds.

Runners alternated running mile-long legs until each runners had three miles in for six miles in total for each pair.

Giroux and Broberg edged out Gladstone’s Jake Strassler and Adam Bruce by just three seconds, with the Hematites’ Silas Broberg and Jordan Longtine third another 13 seconds back in 34:08.

Marquette and Negaunee split the laurels in the girls meet. The Redettes won the team title with 10 points, while Ishpeming was second with 30.

Gladstone was third with 36, Negaunee fourth with 38 and they were followed by Westwood with 44 and Gwinn 79.

But it was a pair of Miners who won the race, Emily Paupore and Talon Prusi in 38:09, more than a minute ahead of the runners-up from Marquette, Samantha Borzick and Ericka Asmus in 39:19. MSHS’ Reegan Ketzenberger and Delaney Sall were third in 40:33.
