MARQUETTE -- New women's lacrosse head coach Adam Dobis of Northern Michigan University has made his first hire of an assistant coach with the opening of the season about three months away.

Sam Peterson was officially hired on Monday after spending a season in the same position at her alma mater, downstate Alma College.

"Sam has an incredible resume as a player with experience and accolades at various levels," Dobis said in an NMU Sports Information news release announcing the hire after he came to the program in August. "Sam brings a great level of knowledge and passion to our program, and I'm excited to see the positive impact she will leave on our student-athletes in her new role."

Peterson starred in a four-year career at Alma and was a two-time First Team selection in the NCAA Division III Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

She also had three of the top-10 goal-scoring seasons in Scots' history and finished as Alma's No. 1 assist maker and No. 2 in goals and points in its history.

"I am incredibly excited to join the NMU lacrosse program," Peterson said in the NMU SI release. "There is so much talent, and I am eager to work towards the continued success of women's lacrosse."

After graduating from Alma in 2024, Peterson completed her fifth year at Division II Northwood, a former member of Northern's Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

She finished her year with the Timberwolves tied for the team lead in points with 60 that included 45 goals, achieving her third all-conference selection, this time on the First Team in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
