MARQUETTE -- The men's and women's golf teams at Northern Michigan University play over a total of five dates for their fall seasons between mid-September and mid-October.
Each team will play at four of the two-day meets, with both teams at three venues simultaneously.
"This schedule gives our student-athletes the chance to compete at a high level while continuing to develop on and off the course," said Wildcats golf head coach Ben Johnson in an NMU Sports Information news release detailing the schedules. "We're excited for the season ahead and look forward to representing NMU every step of the way. We brought on some great talent, and we can't wait to get the season started."
The coach, a former student-athlete with the Northern program, was hired as an assistant coach in 2023 before he was promoted to head coach in September 2024.
Both teams open their seasons at the Bulldog Fall Classic in just over a week, on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 14-15, and hosted by Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member Ferris State at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.
The Wildcat women are by themselves next, at the Warrior Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22, hosted by GLIAC member Wayne State at The Orchards Golf Club in the Detroit suburb of Washington.
The teams come together for the next two meets to start October. First there will be the Flyer Fall Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6, hosted by Great Lakes Valley Conference member Lewis at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Illinois.
Then comes the Panther Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, hosted by GLIAC member Davenport at Stonehedge North in downstate Augusta.
Finally comes the fall's men's-only meet, their version of the Warrior Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, hosted by Wayne State at the Westshore Golf Club in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Ile. That puts the Wildcat men in competition for four straight day to end the fall.
Both teams will pick up the clubs again in the spring, though it’s more likely the schedule will actually resume in late winter, probably well south of the Uppe
