Marquette Oldtimers perfect this summer

The Marquette Oldtimers Softball team swept to victory in all four of its games this summer, defeating both Negaunee and Gwinn twice in home-and-home games. The campaign for Marquette players ages 62 and older opened with a 7-0 shutout of Negaunee on the road as Jay Wilder earned the pitching victory and Casey Smith took the loss.
Steve Holman and Brian Schmeltzer had two hits apiece to support that winning effort.
Then Marquette won a narrow 10-7 decision at Gwinn, Bob Rabitaille picking up the victory on the rubber as he hit a homer, while Pat Taylor took the loss and also had a hit.
Marquette wrapped up its summer season by playing a home doubleheader at Hurley Field in Marquette, beating Negaunee in 10 innings (no score available) as Joe Darcey had the walk-off single.
Wilder got this pitching triumph as both teams were credited with playing great defense.
Marquette finished off its clean sweep by downing Gwinn 9-4. Rabitaille picked up this pitching win with relief help from Ed Bernard.
Wilder hit a home run, while Schmeltzer and Rick Schwemin had three hits each and Jim Constance two hits for the winning cause.
