Phil and Lee’s, Eagles win division titles

ISHPEMING -- Phil and Lee's in Class A and the Eagles in Class B wrapped up regular season divisional championships in the Iron Range Women's Softball League on Wednesday.

Phil and Lee's also won the league playoffs, with fellow "A" team Jasper Ridge Brewery coming in as runner-up.

Congress Pizzas finished as runner-up in Class A during the regular season, with Paradise Bar taking second in "B." And sportsmanship honors were awarded to Tino's in Class A and Dee's Nuts in Class B.

In the 14th and final week of play in Class A, Leann Saarela hit a grand slam home run and Taylor Oakland hit a "regular" homer to lead Jasper Ridge to a 27-5 victory over Pasquali's, whose Thalicia DelAngelo and Carlie Root both doubled as DelAngelo also was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Also in "A," Karlie Patron went 5 for 5 with a triple and double while Jackie Skradski was 5 for 6 with a double in Phil and Lee's 19-4 triumph over LaCosse & Associates, whose Jordan Kowalski collected four RBIs and Lexy Pomplon was credited with good hitting.

Britney Rovelsky was 4 for 4 with a pair of triples and Brandi Logan 4 for 5 with a homer as Congress Pizzas popped a 20-4 decision over River Rock, whose Delaney McLaughlin was 2 for 3 and Ally Solander tripled.

Faith Toutant homered, Emily Sweet doubled and the team was credited with all-around good hitting in Dave's Collision/Jack's 22-7 win over Tino's, which got a triple from Josey Castello and double from Taryn Myers.

In Class B, Livvie Denofre homered and Casey Dugan and Amber Tuominen both doubled as Pineshears posted a low-scoring 6-3 victory over Barron's Auto Repair, which saw Dana Quinnell go 4 for 4 with a triple, Sierrah Hallum 3 for 3, and Lyla Quinnell homer.

Also in "B," Kyla Huhas was 4 for 5 and Krystal Heikkinen homered in Willey's Tire Shop's 13-5 triumph over Dee's Nuts.

Signs Unlimited posted a forfeit win over Eagles, as did Quality Car Care over Palomaki Family Chiropractic, while Paradise Bar had a bye.

Class A -- Phil and Lee's 12-1, Congress Pizzas 11-3, River Rock 10-4, LaCosse & Associates 7-7, Dave's Collision/Jack's 7-7, Jasper Ridge Brewery 6-7, Tino's 1-12, Pasquali's 0-13

Class B -- Eagles 9-3, Paradise Bar 9-4, Dee's Nuts 9-4, Pineshears 7-5, Quality Car Care 6-6, Willey's Tire Shop 5-7, Palomaki Family Chiropractic 5-8, Signs Unlimited 4-8, Barron's Auto Repair 2-11
