ISHPEMING -- Dee's Nuts stayed close in the race for the Class B title by posting a 27-9 victory over Quality Car Care during week 13 of the Iron Range Women's Softball League on Wednesday.
In this second-to-last week of the regular season, Caylie Kangas and Karlie Kargela each went 4 for 4 and Nichi Sundberg tripled for the winners, while Joanna Smail was 3 for 3 and Viv Lammi doubled for QCC.
Dee's remained a half-game behind Class B leader Eagles, which had a bye.
Also in "B," Hailey Hytinen cranked an over-the-fence home run while hitting two doubles and also going 4 for 4 as Paradise Bar spanked Signs Unlimited 26-5.
Kylie Tobias, who blasted two homers, Kathy Maynard and April Lawer also went 4 for 4 for Paradise, while teammate Rachel Hytinen was 3 for 4 with a homer and Linsey Giraud homered and doubled.
Becca LaChapelle doubled and went 2 for 2 for Signs Unlimited, while Linda Dompierre, who doubled, and Nikki Chapman each were 2 for 3.
Casey Dugan was 5 for 5 with a triple, Chelsey Wunder 3 for 5 with a homer and Kathy Johnson 3 for 4 with a triple as Pineshears trimmed Willey's Tire Shop 25-20.
Willey's Kyla Yuhas went 5 for 5 while Lindsay Williams homered.
Krystal Bergman was 5 for 5 in support of winning pitcher Tara Roberts as Palomaki Family Chiropractic adjusted to a 16-5 victory over Barron's Auto Repair.
Mallory Pruett-Shank and Val Prusi both were 4 for 5 for the winners, while Stacey Maki and Lyla Quinnell each went 3 for 3 for Barron's.
In Class A, Phil and Lee's credited all-around good hitting in a 25-4 win over Pasquali's, as Phil and Lee's just about locked up the their title -- or at least a share of it.
Thalicia DelAngelo and Eliina Delmont both were 2 for 2 for Pasquali's.
In another "A" encounter, Macey Nault smacked a pair of homers, one a grand slam, in Dave's Collision/Jack's 30-11 win over LaCosse & Associates.
Dave's/Jack's also got homers from Amanda Lotterman and Sydney Beaulieu, while LaCosse credited its great pitching.
Abbie Salisbury snogged a grand slam homer while Nikki Whitford and Brandi Logan both were 2 for 3 as Congress Pizzas heated up for an 11-3 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery, whose Brittany Singer was 3 for 3 and Sam Richards tripled.
Kenzie Karki homered in River Rock's 23-5 triumph over Tino's, whose Kara Clisch homered and Taryn Myers tripled.
