MARQUETTE -- Bowling leagues are organizing for the upcoming fall and winter season at bowling centers in Ishpeming and Marquette.
Both the leagues themselves and their host centers encourage prospective individual bowlers or full teams to sign up for leagues, as leagues often have room for more teams and already-established teams are on the lookout to fill out rosters.
With just one exception, each of 10 leagues between the two centers will start their seasons in the week following Labor Day, with the schedule generally lasting from 28 to 32 weeks until early to mid-spring.
At River Rock Lanes and Banquet Center in Ishpeming, there are leagues every weekday or night, while at Superior Entertainment Center in Marquette, leagues are conducted on three weeknights.
Teams in the leagues range from two to five members participating each session, with a majority being mixed leagues with any combination of men and women on them.
River Rock has mixed leagues on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, and there are actual two mixed-league shifts on Wednesdays.
It has a men's-only league on Monday nights, while there are women's-only leagues on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday night.
The Thursday night women's group at River Rock is the only area exception to starting after Labor Day, as it is scheduled to start next Thursday, Sept. 3.
River Rock also hosts senior citizen -- actually ages 50 and over -- bowling sessions that don't use a strict league format each Monday and Friday afternoon, usually commencing at 12:30 p.m.
And the Ishpeming center plans to offer youth leagues on Saturday and one weekday afternoon with sign-up starting in early to mid-September.

Superior Entertainment Center hosts three weeknight leagues, each in a mixed format and with four on a team. Leagues are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
