Popps, Nora, Cervantes all go deep for the Eagles

ISHPEMING -- Ecko Popps, Bella Nora and Des Cervantes all homered while having perfect nights at the plate to lead the Eagles to a 24-2 victory over Barron's Auto Repair in a Class B game in the Iron Range Women's Softball League on Wednesday.

Playing in the ninth week of the season, Popps also doubled while going 5 for 5, Nora also tripled while going 3 for 3 and Cervantes had a 2-for-2 evening.

For Barron's, Sierrah Hallum and Emily Duquette each were 2 for 2.

In another "B" contest, Kylie Tobias homered and was 6 for 6 to pace Paradise Bar to a 28-12 win over Quality Car Care.

The winners' Hailey Hytinen homered and tripled while Katie Mitchell tripled as they and teammates Mariah Heard and Kathy Maynard all went 4 for 5.

Quality's Joanna Smail hit a home run.

Stacy Sibley went 5 for 5 as she and Jen Laurila both doubled, while teammate Taylor Jackovich homered in Dee's Nuts' narrow 19-16 triumph over Palomaki Family Chiropractic.

PFC's Terri Todd homered, Barb Palomaki doubled while running "like a beast!" and Katie Tonge played "slamming shortstop!"

Miranda Cobb, Lindsay Williams and Krystal Heikkinen all homered to lead Willey's Tire Shop to a 23-7 win over Signs Unlimited, whose Liz King and Angela Judici also hit a roundtripper.

Pineshears had a bye.

In Class A, Chelsie Kienitz and Katie Rankinen each went 5 for 5 with some power as Congress Pizzas downed Pasquali's 22-7.

Kienitz cracked a pair of home runs and Rankinen two triples, while Pasquali's Alana Nuorala was 2 for 3 with a triple.

In another "A" encounter, Tia Mattila was 6 for 6 and Beth Christensen 5 for 5 as Phil and Lee's posted a 32-4 victory over Tino's, whose Alexis Forchini was 3 for 3 while Miranda Roose had an "amazing hit."

Sinead Korvela went 3 for 4 while Mel Maddock and Brynn Lanala had a double apiece as Dave's Collision/Jack's pulled out a 9-6 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery, whose Taylor Oakland homered.

And River Rock posted an 18-14 victory over LaCosse & Associates.
