Negaunee grad Paupore competes at US track nat’ls in NYC

NEW YORK -- Negaunee High School and Central Michigan University graduate Emily Paupore competed in the finals of the steeplechase at the U.S. Track & Field Outdoor Track and Field Championships late Saturday afternoon.

Competing on the third day of a four-day meet that brought top track and field athletes from around the nation to Icahn Stadium in New York City, Paupore placed 13th in the 3,000-meter women's steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 52.93 seconds.

This marked the first time this meet was held in New York since 1991, after four straight years being held in Eugene, Oregon.

Paupore was a standout star in multiple sports at Negaunee, most notably cross country and track and field, and also starred in those sports at NCAA Division I at CMU, taking part in the NCAA Championships.

Paupore, the daughter of Miners cross country and girls track and field coach Vickie Paupore, improved her time at the U.S. Track nationals by about 7 1/2 seconds from 2025 after clocking 10:00.51.

Emily Paupore was sponsored by Bandit Running, which sponsored 77 athletes at the meet through its Unsponsored Project. She current runs professionally with the Minnesota Distance Elite squad based out of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Paupore's splits on the USATF website, results.usatf.org, showed her clocking the 14th best time of 3:12.84 at 1,000 meters, the 15th best of 6:32.46 at 2,000 meters, before improving two positions in the final 1,000 meters.

Lexy Halladay of Nike Swoosh Track Club won the women's 3,000 steeplechase in 9:12.54, about a five-second win over runner-up Gabbi Jennings of Adidas as each of the top six finished within 10 seconds of the top spot.

Emily Paupore finished just behind 12th-place Sydney Masciarelli in 9:50.26, and just ahead of 14th place Jenna Melanson in 9:53.42. Those other two finishers were both listed as "unattached" in the standings.

Emily Paupore finished just a shade more than 10 seconds behind ninth-place Marisa Howard of Idaho Afoot, who finished in 9:42.78.

While 40 seconds out of first place at the end, Emily Paupore was within four seconds after her first 1,000 meters and a shade over 20 seconds out of the top spot after 2,000 meters.
