MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University hockey team had one of the highest total of players earning recognition on an All-American academic scholars list put out by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

Thirteen Wildcats earned placement on the 10th annual Krampade All-American Scholars list.

To make the list, players had to compile a 3.75 grade-point average for each semester of the past school year and have appeared in 40% of their team’s games. Game requirements could be waived for injured players and for backup goalies.

Schools must also be AHCA members to be eligible for this award.

There were 729 players in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey honored, a small majority, 404, coming from men’s programs.

Of those, just five men’s programs nationwide had more than NMU’s 13 honorees — Colorado College, Long Island and fellow CCHA member Bowling Green State had 15 each, while Alaska-Fairbanks and CCHA member Bemidji State had 14 apiece.

Joining the Wildcats with 13 award winners were Robert Morris and CCHA member Ferris State.

In all, 77 CCHA players earned this honor, with the aforementioned four schools having between 13 and 15 and St. Thomas having seven, Minnesota State-Mankato five, Lake Superior State four, and Michigan Tech and Augustana with three each.

These are Northern’s honored players, listed alphabetically:

Jakub Altrichter, Oliver Auyeung-Ashton, Medrick Bolduc, Danny Ciccarello, Peter Cisar, Anthony Cliche, Grayden Daul, Zane Demsey, Caiden Gault, Tobias Pitka, Joe Schiller, Tyler Stern and Mathew Ward.
