NEGAUNEE — Yes, you could put an entire batting lineup of Negaunee High School softball players out on the field just from the Miners who have earned all-league honors.
Nine Negaunee players earned postseason awards from the Mid-Peninsula Conference and the West PAC, not too surprising for a team that won an MHSAA Division 2 district championship by posting a pair of shutouts in that tournament recently.
The Miners’ run didn’t end until the regional semifinals, when West Branch Ogemaw Heights posted a 12-2 win on Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.
The honors were led by the Miners sweeping all the special “… of the year” awards in both leagues.
Senior Delaney Gladwell was named Player of the Year in both the M-PC and West PAC, the same for sophomore Alyse Robar as Pitcher of the Year, and even tripling up with Randy Carlson earning both Coach of the Year laurels.

In addition to Negaunee, other teams from the area, Westwood, Gwinn and Manistique, also earned conference honors.
But the Miners led the way. With only a limited amount of crossover — only Negaunee, Westwood and Gwinn are members of both leagues — the same players sometimes were honored at different levels.
The top players weren’t different, though. Nor were Miners senior Cassie Feys, junior Megan Marker and sophomore Olivia Richards — each made First Team in both leagues.

With Miners sophomore Natalie Pantti getting Second Team honors in both leagues, junior Brielle Anderson was named Second Team in the M-PC and Honorable Mention in the West PAC.

And the ninth honoree to fill out the batting lineup and final position on defense was senior Ainsley Brunette, who made Honorable Mention in the M-PC.
Westwood matched Negaunee with four First Team honors in the M-PC — of course, the Miners’ top two players, Gladwell and Robar, weren’t eligible to make the First Team.
But Patriots seniors Makayla Fisher and Morgan Schneider, junior Grace Tossava and sophomore Lyn Magnuson make a pretty impressive quartet on the M-PC First Team.
Westwood’s representatives on the Second Team were seniors Kaylin Doney and Sami Ruby, while getting Honorable Mention were senior Niila Nurmi and junior Eliisa Doney.
In the West PAC, Schneider made First Team, Fisher the Second Team and Magnuson the Honorable Mention.

Randy Carlson
Gwinn had two Honorable Mentions, one sophomore in each league. It was Charly Nordeen in the M-PC and Myah Pickett in the West PAC.
From Manistique, which is only a member of the M-PC, the Emeralds placed senior Kaylin Morrison on the First Team, junior Kenna Davis and freshman Brooke Petrelius on the Second Team, and senior Malia Blixt on Honorable Mention.
Here are the other honorees in each league. Each is listed with their year and school:
