MARQUETTE — Well over 200 student-athletes from Northern Michigan University were honored recently for their academic performances by the Wildcats’ main league, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The GLIAC is NMU’s league in men’s and women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, women’s track and field, and women’s volleyball.
Between the three academic semesters, 228 Northern student-athletes landed on GLIAC and at-large teams for several sports not included in the conference. That one at-large sport for NMU is men’s and women’s nordic skiing.
To be eligible, students must have been on their team’s active roster at the conclusion of that season and cannot be a freshman or first-year transfer student, though redshirt freshmen are eligible.
There were two classifications for the honors, the GLIAC Academic Excellence Award for those with a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale, and also the GLIAC All-Academic Award for those with at least 3.00 but less than 3.50 GPA.

Here is a list of the honorees, Academic Excellence listed first, then Academic All-GLIAC, with each student’s year, major, GPA and hometown. The number after the sport’s name is the total number of students honored in the two classifications together.
