Heikkinen, Hudson lead Willey’s to win
NEGAUNEE — Krystal Heikkinen hit a home run and Chastity Hudson smacked two triples to lead Willey’s Tire Shop to the narrowest of victories, 20-19 over Signs Unlimited on opening night action in Class B of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.
Becky Gauthier went 5 for 5 for Signs.
In another Class B game, Echo Popps and Olivia Negilski each went 4 for 4 to lead Eagles past Barron’s Auto Repair 20-0. Teammate Makenze Gerding went 3 for 3 and Jess Geist 3 for 4, as Popps, Gerding and Geist each homered and Negilski hit a pair of doubles.
Barron’s Charissa Johnson was 2 for 2 while teammates Sierrah Hallum and Lyla Quinnell each had a hit.
Katelyn Lammi homered and went 3 for 4 while Michelle Lammi was 4 for 4 as Quality Car Care eked out a 16-13 win over Paradise Bar, whose Kelsey Clark was 4 for 4 and Hailey Hytinen homered.
Taylor Jackovich and Jen Laurila both doubled to lead Dee’s Nuts to a 17-10 triumph over Palomaki Family Chiropractic, which saw Katie Trudgeon go 3 for 4.
Pineshears had a bye.
In Class A, Amanda Harlock hit for the cycle as she, Tia Mattila and Hannah Holma all went 4 for 4 in Phil and Lee’s 23-5 victory over Dave’s Collision/Jack’s Teepee, which saw Sydney Wickstrom go 3 for 4 as she and Faith Toutant each hit a triple.
Also in Class A, Frankie Stetson piled up a homer, two triples, a double and five RBIs as Congress Pizzas waylaid Tino’s 22-8. The winners’ Katie Rankinen tripled, hit three doubles and also collected five RBIs, while Tino’s Josey Castello was 3 for 3 with a triple.
Jordan Kowalski and Morgan Kowalski each tripled as LaCosse & Associates posted a 12-5 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery, whose Jess Harper and Katie VanBuren both doubled.
And River Rock posted a 15-0 blanking of Pasquali’s.
