PAINESDALE — The Negaunee High School softball team took different routes in each game of their doubleheader at Jeffers on Monday, but each reached the same desired destination — a dominant victory.

The Miners shut out the Jets 6-0 in the opener before revving up the offense for a 19-4 triumph in the nightcap.

After Negaunee was also scheduled to play home twinbills vs. Gwinn on Tuesday and Kingsford on Wednesday, the Miners had their scheduled double-dip against Escanaba on Thursday canceled.

Three games are scheduled for early next week, a home doubleheader against Houghton at 4 p.m. Monday and a single game at home vs. Hancock at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Here are details from the games at Jeffers:

Negaunee 6, Jeffers 0

In the opener, Miners hurler Alyse Robar dominated by ringing up 17 strikeouts as she went all seven innings on the rubber. She didn’t allow a run while yielding just two hits and one walk.

Janet Mattila took the pitching loss for Jeffers, also going all seven innings as she allowed six runs — five earned — on seven hits and four walks as she fanned six.

Delaney Gladwell led the Negaunee offense, going 3 for 4 with a double in the first inning, a single in the second and another double in the fifth. She also stole three bases as her team’s defense didn’t commit an error.

Mattila and Svea Johnson each had a hit for the Jets.

Negaunee’s first run came home in the opening inning on an Olivia Richards bases-loaded walk.

Three more came home in the second after RBI singles by Gladwell and Megan Marker.

Negaunee 19, Jeffers 4

In the nightcap, pitcher Ainsley Brunette was the recipient of all her teammates’ offense as she went four innings while allowing four runs — but just one earned — on two hits and six walks as she K’d five. Richards went one more inning with not allowing a run nor hit as she struck out three.

Elli Kuntze took the loss for Jeffers, going five innings and allowing 19 runs, 16 earned, on eight hits and 11 walks.

Gladwell again led the Miners, going 2 for 4, while teammates Marker, Natalie Pantti and Cassie Feys each drew two walks.

Kuntze and Naomi Frahm each had a hit for the Jets.

Feys hit a two-run homer to center field to get Negaunee off to a fast start in the top of the first, Pantti hitting into a double play but bringing home another run for a quick 3-0 lead.

Marker hit an RBI single to right in the second that made it 4-0 before the Miners really erupted with nine runs in the third, coming on just three hits. Brunette hit an RBI double, while Robar and teammate Brielle Anderson each hit two-run singles. In addition, Richards and Feys were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run, similar to Gladwell’s bases-loaded walk. And a Brunette lineout also brought in a run.

Finally, in the fifth, four more runs scored as a Richards homer to right and Gladwell double each brought in two runs.
