Split on the diamond: Miners, Escanaba softball each win a game Thursday

ESCANABA — Negaunee split a pair of high school softball games at Escanaba on Thursday, winning the opener 3-2 and falling in the nightcap 10-5.
Up next on the schedule for the Miners is a doubleheader to be played at Ishpeming at 4 p.m. Tuesday, with another twinbill set for Iron Mountain at 4 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

Negaunee 3, Escanaba 2
In the opener, Alyse Robar went seven innings for Negaunee, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks as she struck out seven. Esky counterpart Cam Buckley took the loss, also going all seven while giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk as she K’d four.
Megan Marker went 2 for 3 for the Miners with two RBIs, while teammate Delaney Gladwell also had two hits. Chloe Dubord had two hits for the Eskymos.
A groundout hit by Harlee Coolman scored a run to put EHS up 1-0 in the opening inning, but Marker’s double was the big hit in a rally to put Negaunee ahead 3-1 in the fourth.
Escanaba 10, Negaunee 5
In the nightcap, Olivia Richards took the pitching loss for the Miners, going six innings as she allowed 10 runs — only five that were earned — on 10 hits and five walks as she fanned two. Esky’s Landry Bray got the win, going all seven as she allowed five runs on three hits and seven walks, K’ing eight.
Marker,
Robar and Rheana Nelson each had a hit for Negaunee, while Natalie Pantti, Nelson and Marker each had an RBI. Additionally, Pantti, Gladwell and Ainsley Brunette drew two walks apiece for the Miners, while Richards notched two steals.
Coolman paced EHS at the plate, going 2 for 4 with four RBIs, while teammate Claire Jacobsen was 3 for 3.
A steal of home culminated a two-run first inning for Negaunee, but Chloe Dubord hit an RBI single as Esky tied it in the second.
Negaunee went back ahead in the fourth on a Marker RBI double and Pantti RBI groundout, though the Eskymos got the lead back for good with runs scoring in the fifth on an error, Coolman two-run single and Addison Noblet groundout.
