Sentinels baseball falls to Gogebic at home
MARQUETTE — Marquette couldn’t protect an early lead as the Miners team from western Gogebic County scored a 4-1 high school baseball victory on Wednesday at Gerard Haley Memorial Field in north Marquette.
The Sentinels opened the scoring with a wild pitch scoring a run in the second inning.
The Miners tied it with an RBI single by Cayden Harju in the top of the third, then untied it with a three-run fifth, keyed by a Harju two-run double.
Aidan Mason started and took the pitching loss for MSHS, going five innings and allowing four runs — three earned — on five hits as he walked two and struck out eight.
Cjay Wainio also went five innings for Gogebic, giving up one run on one hit with three walks and 12 K’s.
Easton Jezewski had Marquette’s lone hit.
Harju led Miners’ batters, going 2 for 3 with three RBIs as teammate Ian Mattila also had two hits.
This game was the first of four games in four days at home for the Sentinels. After having Ironwood on the schedule on Thursday afternoon, MSHS is set to play Westwood at 4 p.m. today and Houghton at 1 p.m. Saturday.
