Here are details from Menominee:

Girls meet

The Miners shone quite brightly in the high jump, where their athletes turned in the four best heights that were cleared.

Because of tiebreakers, the Miners claimed first, second, a tie for fifth and seventh places in the event.

Elvera Coyne cleared 5 feet, 1 inch to win as teammate Clare O’Donnell was runner-up after making it over at 5 feet even. Fifth-place Nori Korsman and seventh-place Liliana Saunders were among five competitors all making it over at 4-10, with tiebreakers determining places 3 through 7.

“I was so impressed with my field event girls at the meet,” Negaunee girls head coach Vickie Paupore said in an email detailing the result. “My high jumpers did an amazing job.

“It is very unusual to have so many girls at such high heights in an early-season meet. Our field event athletes have really helped our team throughout the years and our jumpers, vaulters and throwers are consistently placing highly this season.”

Teammate Izzy Niemi won the discus with a toss of 96-9, beating out Marquette’s Brynn Autio by nine inches as the Miners’ Priya Morey was third and teammates Alina Nelson and Baylie Bourdeau also broke into the top six.

Negaunee’s Paige O’Donnell was runner-up in the shot put, while Korsman was second in the pole vault and Keira Waterman fourth in the long jump.

The Miners picked up another five victories on the track, led by Sadie Rogers sweeping the hurdles events. She won the 100 hurdles in 17.14 seconds, ahead of teammate and runner-up Addie Dank by about 1 1/3 seconds behind and the Miners’ Josie Mechling taking fifth.

In the 300 hurdles, Rogers ran to an even bigger win in 49.53, nearly four seconds ahead of Mechling in second as teammate Adela Miller was fifth.

In the 800, Waterman won in 2:38.03, a more than 2 1/2-second victory, with the Miners’ Riley Conklin fifth.

Negaunee also won the two longest relays, the 1,600 in 4:16.37 with Rogers, Mechling, Waterman and Brynn Wieciech, and the 3,200 in 11:25.60 with Clare O’Donnell, Conklin, Wieciech and Liliana Saunders.

The Miners added a second place in the 800 relay, too.

Negaunee had another three runners-up, giving them six in total on the track. Other second-place finishers were Coyne in the 100 as Francisco was third, Waterman in the 400 as Wieciech was third, and Adelyn Chapman in the 3,200.

Chapman added a third place in the 1,600.

Marquette’s Jordyn Anthony was one of the individual stars in the girls’ meet, accounting for four victories. She won the 100 in 12.91 seconds as teammate Taylen Todd was fifth, and the 200 in 26.49.

Anthony also ran with the Sentinels’ victorious 400 and 800 relays. The 400 relay won by nearly three seconds in 52.40 with Eva Nystrom, Kiera Daugherty and Todd joining her.

The 800 relay clocked 1:52.23 as Anthony was joined by Nystrom, Daugherty and Todd.

Todd also posted a victory in the long jump with a leap of 16-8.

Runners-up for Marquette included Brynn Autio in the discus, and the 1,600 relay team of Daugherty, Hailey Boif, Alana Figler and Chloe Jackson.

Westwood’s top finish came in the 1,600 relay with Addelyn Hallum, Piper Etelamaki, Kamryn Lavigne and Ava Gobert, while the 3,200 relay was fourth, and individually, Hallum placed fifth in the 200.

Boys meet

Marquette was led by Ford Richardson, who had a hand in three victories.

He won the 100 in 11.15 seconds as teammate Oliver Kudej was fourth, and added a win in the 300 hurdles in 42.65.

Then he ran the anchor leg of the victorious 400 relay in 45.26, joining Kudej and teammates Charles Hrodey and James Goodwin.

While the Sentinels didn’t win the 1,600 relay, their second-place finish in every meet’s traditional final event allowed them to stay in front of Kingsford, which placed sixth in that relay. MSHS clocked 3:49.21 with Joey Tuccini, Ben Rayhorn, Dylan Ballard and Beepsee Teeple.

Marquette’s Jacob Norman won the 110 high hurdles in 15.97, while teammate Nathan Cattoor won the discus with a toss of 123-8 and placed third in the shot put.

MSHS also won the 800 relay in 1:36.89 with Kudej, Rayhorn, Goodwin and Hrodey.

Other runner-up finishes were turned in by Teeple in the 400, Jack Grant in the 1,600 and Peter Argeropoulos in the 3,200.

Derek McEachern accounted for Negaunee’s lone win in the 400 in 53.71 seconds as he was also runner-up in the 200.

Teammate Ethan Gauthier was second in the discus, while the Miners had four third places — Cole Prusi in the 300 hurdles and long jump, Cole Pekrul in the 110 hurdles, and Simon Jaklin in the 3,200.

Westwood’s top finish was Breckin Jensen, who had a hand in two runner-up finishes. He was second in the 800 and joined the Patriots’ runner-up 3,200 relay with Jared Waterman, Johnny Jestila and William Niemi.

The Patriots also got a third from their 1,600 relay with Gavin Comero, Jaks Williams, Louis Trudell and Ellis King, while getting a fourth from Calvin Carlson in the 3,200.
