MARQUETTE — Eight members of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at Northern Michigan University have earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators organization.
The honorees from the women’s team are senior Evie DeCarlo and juniors Kalina Ceglinski, Annika Geyer and Julia Zimpel, while for the men it’s seniors William LaCount, Jef Leroux, Leo Nolles and Tobie Stiles.
These honors recognized top student-athletes nationally for their combined performances in the pool and the classroom in four collegiate divisions — NCAA Divisions I, II and III along with the NAIA.
The eight NMU award winners advanced for consideration for the similar CSC Academic All-America ballot.
This was the third Academic All-District honor for LaCount, Nolles and Stiles, while Leroux earned his first. It was also the first of this award for all four Wildcat women.
This is the third straight year that four Northern men and four women have earned district honors, with Nolles, LaCount and Stiles, along with the women’s Camilla Carbone and Zoe DeKievit winning Academic All-America honors last season. In 2023-24, LaCount was the lone NMU swimmer to earn the All-America distinction.
Academic All-America awards will be announced at noon Tuesday for men and noon Wednesday for women online at the AcademicAllAmerica.com website and @AcadAllAmerica social media.
Less than 5% of student-athletes across all sports and divisions earned this prestigious award last year.
