NMU swimmers, divers host LSSU, Skins Day

MARQUETTE — The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at Northern Michigan University hosted Lake Superior State for a dual meet and won easily against the second-year Lakers’ teams.
The NMU men won 118-45 and the Northern women were victorious 115-8. The Wildcat Skins meet was also held during the meet as it was also Senior Day.
After Senior Day ceremonies, a mixed 200-yard medley relay was held combining men’s and women’s swimmers. The Wildcats’ team of Laura Stockinger, Andrew Tease, Phini Schneider and Gabriel Fulconi won, followed by an NMU quartet of Ian Rocheleau, Evie DeCarlo, Jef Leroux, and Vicky Burda, then another Northern foursome of Evangeline Pierce, Alessandro Rosatelli, Liam Boomer, and Brooklyn Millward.
Next up for the Wildcats teams is the four-day GLIAC Championships to be held Feb. 6-9 at downstate Holland.
Here are details from each meet vs. LSSU:
Men’s meet
The NMU men’s team, the swimmers ranked No. 11 in the nation and divers also rated No. 11, had quite a number of winners — Daniel Khmara in the 200 freestyle and 50 butterfly, Leo Nolles in the 50 free and 100 free, Timothee Garin in the 500 free and 1,650 free, Fulconi in the 200 individual medley, Travis Thornton in one-meter diving, Rocheleau in the 50 backstroke, Tobie Stiles in three-meter diving, Rafael Schaub in the 200 butterfly and Tease in the 50 breaststroke.
William LaCount, Fulconi, Khmara and Nolles combined to win the 200 free relay.
Women’s meet
The NMU women swimmers are ranked No. 11 nationally and the divers No. 5.
Among Northern’s winners were Annika Geyer in the 200 free, Joanne Arbic in the 50 free, Manuela Araujo in the 200 IM, Kalina Ceglinski in the one- and three-meter diving, Nicole Malinova in the 50 fly, Evie DeCarlo in the 100 free, Stockinger in the 50 back, Ellie Kilgard in the 500 free and Ludovica Bonini in the 50 breast.
