MARQUETTE — The women’s and men’s nordic ski teams at Northern Michigan University will scale back their opening Central Collegiate Ski Association conference meet of the season this weekend.
That’s due to something that might seem like it’s good for skiing — lots and lots of cold weather.
However, frigid conditions forced organizers of the Ariens Nordic CCSA Invitational in Brillion, Wisconsin, to cut out today’s events and only run skiing on Sunday.
The meet is hosted by Wisconsin-Green Bay in a village about 20 miles south of Green Bay.
Sunday’s single race for men and for women will be a 15-kilometer skate individual start race, which is an NCAA qualifying event and was originally going to be run today.
There is also a junior Under-20 7.5K race that some of the younger NMU skiers can compete in.
The original 3-by-1 mixed relay set for Sunday won’t be held.
Luke Fricker for the men and Henriette Nilssen for the women are the top-rated Wildcats coming into the event.
