Marquette’s swim, dive numbers overwhelm Rudyard

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School swimming and diving teams had too much depth for Rudyard to contend with as the Sentinels easily swept to victories in a dual meet held at the MSHS pool on Tuesday.

MSHS won the girls meet 115-62 and the boys matchup 115-18.

“After limited practices over the holiday break, the Marquette swim and dive team had a very respectable performance against the Rudyard Bulldogs,” Sentinels head coach Nate McFarren said in an email detailing the result. “(We are) really appreciative that Rudyard made the long trip to Marquette.

“Rudyard showed a lot of depth on the girls side, and some strong male performances.”

The Bulldogs’ boys quality was shown when Quinn Darr picked up Rudyard’s lone victory in the boys’ 100-yard freestyle in 1:07.22, a nearly nine-second win.

A trio of Marquette swimmers won four events apiece, all on the girls team.

Each won two individual events, Kaytlin Roell the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, Logan McFarren the 50 free and 500 free, and Sophie Hausmann the diving and 100 free.

All three swam on the victorious 200 free relay quartet, with Roell and McFarren also on the 200 medley relay winners and Hausmann on the 400 free relay victors.

Teammate Loralei Maki won three times, the 100 breaststroke and legs of the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

A pair of Sentinels boys also won three times. Lucas Deiter took the 200 free and swam with his 200 free and 400 free relays winners, while Anton Voigt won the 200 individual medley and legs of the 200 free and 200 medley relay.

Seven swimmers won two events each.

For the girls, Edith Jentoft won the 200 free and Liliana Fogaroli swam on the 200 free relay as each were on the victorious 400 free relay.

Five boys doubled up. Gavin Mills won the 100 back, Beau Deiter the 500 free, Cade Kruhak the 100 free and Jack Pozega the 50 free. In relays, Landen McFarren won on both the 200 free and 200 medley relays squads, while Mills and Beau Deiter each were on the triumphant 400 free relay, Kruhak the 200 free relay and Pozega the 200 medley relay.

After Marquette hosted Ishpeming-Negaunee on Friday afternoon, the I-N team was going to the Houghton Splash this morning as the Sentinels will return the favor to the Bulldogs by swimming at Rudyard on Tuesday afternoon.
