MARQUETTE — Though limited in her number of available events compared to swimmers, diver Kalina Ceglinski has really been making her mark with the women’s swimming and diving team at Northern Michigan University this season.
The Wildcats junior earned her fifth GLIAC Female Diver of the Week honor this season after her performance at a dual meet held against Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday.
The meet was originally scheduled to be hosted by the Pointers at their Wisconsin pool, but a last-minute scheduling switch brought all the swimmers to the PEIF pool in Marquette instead.
Despite having just two diving events to participate in, Ceglinski shared point-scoring honors for the NMU women with 18 points after winning both the one- and three-meter diving events.
That helped Northern win the women’s meet 185-75, while the Wildcat men won a much closer meet, edging Stevens Point 133-128.
Ceglinski, a two-time All-American and Scholar All-American, is ranked as one of the top women divers in NCAA Division II, rated the best diver on the one-meter board and fifth in the three-meter.
On this day, she blew the field away on the higher three-meter competition, scoring 281.93 points to just 189.38 for runner-up Mallory Spaeth of Stevens Point.
On the one-meter board, she won a much closer competition with 273.53 points as teammate Lillian Marx was runner-up with 264.53.
Ceglinski was previously conference diver of the week in weeks 1, 4, 6 and 8 with this being Week 12.
The only other NMU swimmer or diver on either team with multiple GLIAC weekly awards this season is men’s diver Tobie Stiles, who has won his honor twice.
The Wildcats remain home to host Lake Superior State at 2 p.m. Saturday, a meet that also serves as the Wildcat Skins meet and as Senior Day as the last home meet of the season.
Here are more details from each meet vs. Stevens Point:
Women’s meet
The NMU women, whose swimmers are ranked No. 11 in the nation and divers No. 5, also got 18 points from Kenzie Stute after she won the 200-yard backstroke and the 200 individual medley. Stute won against a full field in the 200 IM by nearly 10 seconds in 2:14.31, while taking an 18 1/2-second win in the 200 back in 2:10.42 against just one other swimmer.
