MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University has rescheduled a men’s basketball game that had to be postponed due to the Thanksgiving snowstorm that hit all across the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin.

Its game against Concordia (Wisconsin) will now be played at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, at Vandament Arena.

NMU Sports Information points out that tickets purchased for the original Nov. 26 date are good for this rescheduled time.

While this is a nonconference men’s-only game, the Wildcats’ men’s and women’s teams — the women are ranked No. 18 nationally — are headed together to the southern end of Lake Michigan this week each for a pair of games to open the campaign in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

NMU travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to face Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday, the women’s game at 6:30 p.m. EST and men’s game at 8:30 p.m.

They continue south to Chicago to take on Roosevelt on Saturday, the women’s contest at 2 p.m. EST and men’s at 4 p.m.

All four games will be broadcast on radio locally, three of them on the Wildcats’ regular home radio station, WUPT 100.3 FM The Point, with Saturday’s men’s game on WUPZ 94.9 FM The Bay with Northern’s hockey team having overlapping game times.

Fans can also visit the NMU athletics website at nmuwildcats.com and look under the women’s or men’s schedules for links to live video, live statistics and a preview and history.

The NMU women earned their national ranking with an 8-1 record, their only loss at home to Minnesota-Duluth on Nov. 21. Most recently, these Wildcats swept games on back-to-back days last weekend at Minnesota-Crookston, 89-57 and 78-63.

The Northern men are 4-1, their only setback to Missouri-St. Louis on Nov. 15, with their current three-game winning streak including victories over Northern State (South Dakota), Northwest Missouri State and Minnesota-Duluth, all by at least 18 points.

NMU has also updated the Wildcats’ men schedule for later this month with a trip to Puerto Rico to take on three teams from that U.S. commonwealth.

Northern faces Interamerican University on Friday, Dec. 19, the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras on Dec. 20 and Puerto Rico-Bayamon on Dec. 21.

Interamerican is listed on an online Wikipedia site as a private university with an enrollment of 50,000 and located in San German, Rio Piedras as a public institution with 18,653 students and in the capital of San Juan, and Bayamon also public with 5,014 enrollment located in Bayamon.
