Ishpeming-Negaunee’s Ryan continues bowling big scores

IRON MOUNTAIN — Ishpeming-Negaunee junior Killian Ryan was one of two high school boys bowlers to roll a game in the 230s during competition held in the Upper Peninsula Bowling Conference at Recreation Lanes in Iron Mountain on Saturday.

Bowling is one of the few high school sports to not take a week off for the Christmas holidays so that the UPBC can fit in all its meets during the late fall and winter season.

The conference resumes play this Saturday at Dome Lanes in Marinette, Wisconsin, in a meet hosted by Menominee.

In Iron Mountain, Killian rolled a 232 game during the second of two shifts of bowling, joining IM sophomore Jaricho Hudson, who shot a 233 in his home center during the opening shift.

In addition, Westwood senior Roman Yuhas shot 205 and Marquette senior Nick Lyons had 204 also in the first shift.

Team scores included Marquette pulling off a three-match sweep in the opening shift. The Sentinels boys downed Escanaba 36-4, while the MSHS girls received a forfeit win when the Eskymos couldn’t field a full team.

In addition, the Marquette X team — a squad of bowlers beyond the regular five on boys and girls teams — downed the Westwood X “B” team 33-7.

Also in the early shift, the Westwood girls scored a 36-4 win over the Mountaineers, while the Patriots boys lost 28-12 to IM. And the WHS X “A” team dropped IM X 27-13.

And also bowling early, Calumet swept L’Anse, the girls winning 34-6 and boys victorious 39-1.

In the second shift, the Ishpeming-Negaunee girls pulled off a 38-2 win over Gladstone, while the I-N boys won 31-9 over the Braves. I-N’s X team couldn’t field a full team and forfeited to Gladstone.
