Boys get hoops win as Marquette visits Muskegon
MUSKEGON — The Marquette Senior High School girls basketball team had a bit of a rough trip against some good Lower Peninsula competition over the weekend, losing a pair of games in Muskegon to fall to 0-3 after one week of the season.
Meanwhile the Sentinels boys team split its games played at the same schools as part of doubleheaders on back-to-back days.
On Friday night, the MSHS girls were dealt a 64-28 setback by Muskegon (2-0) as Addi Kramer and Avery Osborne each had 10 points for the visitors as Muskegon’s Mariah Sain led all scorers with 22.
“They were athletic and physical and Sain finished some very tough plays,” MSHS head coach Ben Smith said in an email detailing the result. “I was proud of how we battled and hope we can use this as an experience to build upon moving forward.”
They probably did build upon after taking a tough 43-41 loss in overtime at crosstown school Muskegon Reeths-Puffer on Saturday afternoon.
The Marquette boys fell 71-49 to Muskegon on Friday night before rebounding for a 72-54 win over Reeths-Puffer on Saturday.
Both teams gets back into action on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with home doubleheaders at the Barb Crill Gym, though in an unusual circumstance, two different schools will provide the opposition each night.
On Tuesday, the Marquette boys host Westwood at 6 p.m., while the Sentinels girls take on Gladstone at 7:30 p.m.
Then on Thursday, the L’Anse girls provide the opposition for MSHS at the Barb Crill Gym at 6 p.m., followed by the Marquette boys hosting Kingsford at 7:30 p.m.
