Sentinels bow out in volleyball district
MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School volleyball team bowed out in the opening round of the MSHAA Division 1 district tournament on Monday evening.
Petoskey visited the Barb Crill Gymnasium and left with a 25-9, 25-19, 25-14 victory.
“Tough loss in the first round of districts,” Sentinels head coach Melissa Butler said in an email detailing the result. “Our team struggled to find rhythm and consistency, with too many unforced errors throughout the match.
“Despite the outcome, I’m proud of the culture we built this season and the hard work each player put in every day.”
Marquette finished its season with a 9-17-1 record, while Petoskey improved to 22-14-1.
The Northmen advanced to a district semifinal match on Wednesday at Traverse City West, where TC West prevailed in four sets, 25-15, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22.
In the district championship played Thursday, TC Central prevailed over TC West in three sets, 25-20, 27-25, 25-17, to advance to the Division 1 regional tournament. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday in Mount Pleasant with Cadillac providing the opposition.
