JV hockey showcase at Lakeview Arena this weekend
MARQUETTE — The Marquette Senior High School hockey program is in the midst of holding its inaugural North-South Junior Varsity Showcase this weekend at Lakeview Arena.
After starting on Friday, this three-day event runs today and Sunday at the Marquette rink.
In addition to the JV Sentinels, junior varsity teams from Calumet and Houghton will represent the North, with Lower Peninsula teams Hartland, Howell and Northville stand up for the South. The Hartland and Howell squads are actually Varsity B teams at their schools.
North vs. South matchups will be held throughout the event. Today’s games, all at Russell Arena, include Calumet vs. Howell at 9:30 a.m., Houghton vs. Hartland at 11:30 a.m. and Marquette vs. Northville at 4 p.m.
The big break between the second and third games is to fit in the Sentinels’ varsity team’s game against Traverse City West at 1:30 p.m., a half-hour earlier than was on the original schedule.
Sunday’s schedule has Calumet vs. Northville at the Olson Arena at 8 a.m., then Houghton vs. Howell at 8:30 a.m. and Marquette vs. Hartland at 10:30 a.m. at Russell Arena.
Admission is $6 per day, and for today, also includes admission to today’s Marquette varsity game. Those who have or will purchase a varsity game ticket via the GoFan online site also get into the JV Showcase today at no extra cost.
This event is also a fundraiser for the MSHS hockey programs, and there will be a bake sale at the arena, according to Marquette JV head coach Mark Janofski.
