ISHPEMING — Fifteen players and a coach from Marquette County shared in 19 high school volleyball honors when Mid-Peninsula Conference coaches got together to decide postseason honors recently.

County schools claimed both major awards among all those laurels, too.

Ishpeming senior middle hitter Mya Hemmer was named the league’s Player of the Year, while Negaunee’s Krista Squiers was bestowed the Coach of the Year honor.

With several ties involved, seven players were named to the league’s First Team, six from Marquette County. They were Hematites’ senior outside hitter Jenessa Eagle and junior setter Marie Salisbury, along with Gwinn junior setter Samantha Sales and a trio of juniors from Negaunee — outside hitter Isla Engstrom, libero Izzy Francisco and outside-right side hitter Lilia Mason.

The other First Team honoree was Manistique senior middle hitter Maya Carlson.

The Second Team had just two Marquette County players, Ishpeming seniors Ava Jo Hares, a libero, and Brittanie Piotrowski, an outside hitter.

The remainder of that unit included Manistique senior outside hitter Kyra Carlson and junior setter Ashlyn Jones, along with Gladstone junior outside hitter Brooklyn Lauscher and Iron Mountain junior libero Emma Bouchard.

The All-Defensive Team was two-thirds Marquette County players, with three players previously named. They were the Hematites’ Hemmer and Hares and the Miners’ Francisco.

Also joining the “D” specialists from Marquette County was Gwinn junior middle hitter Makayla Delmont. The balance of that squad was Manistique sophomore libero Kendyl Flodin and Gladstone senior outside hitter Addy Blowers.

Earning Honorable Mention were Gwinn senior outside hitter Kadence Ruggerio, Westwood junior outside hitter Ava Gobert, Ishpeming sophomore middle hitter Nora Jo Anderson and Negaunee middle hitters Aleana Park, a senior, and Gretel Johnson, a junior.

The other HM was Iron Mountain senior middle hitter Bella Person.
