Cougars volleyball loses to high-flying opposition
EBEN — Superior Central lost a pair of high school volleyball matches to current and former top-five-ranked Upper Peninsula opponents during the past week.
The Cougars slipped to 8-8 for the season after a three-set loss at U.P. Division 4 No. 1 Forest Park and a four-set setback at recent top-five-rated Munising.
SC has improved chances to get back in the win column this week with a home match against Mid Peninsula at 6 p.m. today and at Big Bay de Noc at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Forest Park 3, SC 0
On Tuesday, the 34-1 Trojans prevailed 25-20, 25-16, 25-7.
“We played really well and made them work for every point,” Cougars head coach Kris Bray said in an email detailing the results.
Sophomore Kylie Stuer led SC with 11 kills, 12 digs and a block, assist and service ace. Senior teammate Marissa Strohm had four kills, six digs and an ace, while junior Rory Hancock had nine digs and 38 serve receives.
In addition, sophomore Lilly Simon stuffed her stat sheet with seven digs, 13 assists, three aces, a kill and a block, while freshman Violet Porter had three kills and a dig.
Munising 3, SC 1
On Thursday, Munising improved to 14-6-1 with a 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 25-15 win in SC’s annual Pink Game. Two weeks ago, the Mustangs were ranked in the U.P. D-4 top five and look to get back there this week after three straight wins.
Stuer had another good night for SC, chalking up 23 kills to go with eight blocks, 15 digs, three aces and an assist.
Strohm contributed seven kills, 15 digs, two aces and an assist, while Simon had six blocks, nine digs and 25 assists.
Hancock pumped in 13 digs to go with 34 service receptions; freshman Aubri Kroupa added 14 digs, four blocks, two kills and three assists; while Porter had two kills, two blocks and an assist.
