Sentinels volleyball falls in 3 sets at Calumet
CALUMET — The Marquette Senior High School volleyball team slipped to 3-5 this season after taking a three-set loss at Calumet on Tuesday evening.
The perennially powerful Copper Kings are just 5-3 this season, though that might be attributed to a strong early schedule that includes Kingsford, Florence, Wisconsin, and downstate Manton at the Cadillac Invitational.
Set scores in favor of Calumet were 25-15, 25-16, 25-18.
“Despite the … loss, the team showed resilience throughout the night,” Sentinels head coach Melissa Butler said in an email detailing the result. “Strong serve receive and solid defensive play were highlights, and the group continued to fight each set.
“(I’m) proud of the effort and grit shown on the court.”
Marquette has a home match against another top-notch squad, Kingsford, in the Great Northern Conference at 6:30 p.m. today, then plays at Houghton on Tuesday and hosts Escanaba next Thursday.
