Miners tennis shuts down shorthanded Gwinn

NEGAUNEE — A shorthanded Gwinn team wasn’t able to put up much of a fight in a high school girls tennis meet held at Negaunee on Tuesday.

With just three players available for the Modeltowners, the Miners improved to 5-1 in dual meets this season by scoring an 8-0 sweep with No. 4 singles and all four doubles flights defaulted to Negaunee.

Among the three contested matches, the home team lost a total of one game between them.

The Miners’ Stella Lenten won 6-0, 6-1 over Gwinn’s Lexi Tadgerson at No. 1 singles.

Negaunee’s Addi Chapman triumphed 6-0, 6-0 over the Modeltowners’ Lily White at No. 2 singles, with the Miners’ Sadie Rogers won by that same score over Gwinn’s Adelah Beaudry at No. 3 singles.

The schedule shows Negaunee hosting Marquette in a 4 p.m. meet today, while the Modeltowners travel to Iron Mountain at the exact same time.

Gwinn gets back on the court at 4 p.m. Monday hosting Ishpeming, while the Miners play again at 4:30 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Kingsford.
