Flivvers sweep Marquette spikers
MARQUETTE — Kingsford ran its high school volleyball record to 10-0 with a three-set sweep at Marquette on Thursday evening.
The Flivvers prevailed 25-19, 25-22, 25-16.
“Marquette battled hard against Kingsford, especially in the first two sets, where the play was tight and competitive,” Sentinels head coach Melissa Butler said in an email detailing the result. “Kingsford turned up the intensity in the final set, but Marquette continued to show strong serving, powerful hitting and solid defensive play throughout the match.
“The team is continuing to grow and improve each week, showing significant progress together.”
Kingsford now has wins over Calumet, Escanaba, Menominee, Negaunee and Hancock and is 2-0 in the Great Northern Conference.
Marquette slipped to 3-6 in its GNC opener.
The Sentinels play at Houghton on Tuesday night, then host Escanaba on Thursday evening.
