The half-dozen races started in both Negaunee and Marquette, and the longest one, the 48-mile Hard Rock, looped its way around west Ishpeming before heading downhill toward Lake Superior and Marquette.
The three adult races were all timed, the Hard Rock, 28-mile Soft Rock and 10-mile Shore Rock, while only the longest youth race was also timed, the four-mile Junior Rock.
The other two youth races, the one-mile Little Rock and 50-yard Littlest Rock, were for younger children and not officially timed.
Between the four timed races, numbers on Superior Timing showed 2,185 riders finished and 2,220 were shown as registered. The breakdown is 619 finishing and 636 starting the Hard Rock, 1,048 finishing and 1,061 starting the Soft Rock, 350 finishing and 354 starting the Shore Rock, and 168 finishing and 169 starting the Junior Rock.

Ore to Shore is listed as a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization on its website, oretoshore.com, and says it’s proud to support Start the Cycle, Negaunee Lions, Superiorland Ski Club, Noquemanon Trail Network, RAMBA (Range Area Mountain Bike Association) Trail Network, Upper Peninsula Luge Club and Iron Ore Heritage Trail.
Here are details of top finishers in each timed race:
Hard Rock
It shouldn’t bee too surprising that in a field of 554 male riders, Daxton Mock of Lake Mills, Wisconsin, would win that title by just 2.5 seconds over runner-up Kyan Olshove, of Traverse City, Mock timing the 48 miles in 2 hours, 29 minutes and 28.9 seconds, with Olshove in at 2:29:31.4.
Actually, the first four finishers were all within 3.3 seconds of each other, with Caleb Swartz of Missoula, Montana, third in 2:29:32.0 and Brian Matter of Prescott, Arizona, fourth in 2:29:32.2.
Mock and Olshove are listed in the 20-24-year-old age group, Swartz in 25-29 and Matter doing a good job keeping up with the youngsters as a member of the 45-49 group.
The entire top 10 was within 5:52 of Mock with 11th place exactly six minutes back.
That group included Jorden Wakeley of Grayling, fifth in 2:30:36.1; Ronald Catlin of Oxford, sixth in 2:32:15.0; Kevin Vereecke of Brighton, seventh in 2:32:16.5; Mark Smith of Petoskey, eighth in 2:32:16.9; Arlo Waisman of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, ninth in 2:34:18.5; Benjamin Iesalneiks of Wausau, Wisconsin, 10th in 2:35:20.5; and Aidan Lemorande of Suamico, Wisconsin, 11th in 2:35:28.9.
That fifth- through 11th-place group was all in the 16-19 to 35-39 age divisions, too.
The top U.P. and Marquette-area men’s finisher was Corbin Grim of Marquette, 13th in 2:37:49.0 as a 16-19 age competitor.
Next from the U.P. was Joel Poliskey of Marquette, 20th in 2:39:47.3 in age 35-39.

Three more U.P. riders also cracked the top 100, making just nine from Marquette, Negaunee and Escanaba in the first hundred.
Those other three Yoopers are Taylor Birmann of Marquette in 30-34, 69th overall in 2:54:27.2; Cody McGrath of Negaunee in 30-34, 74th in 2:55:05.3; Alex Sundstrom of Escanaba in 30-34, 90th in 2:59:06.0.

The title, though, went to 12-15-year-old racer Porter Kochis of Traverse City in 1:25:02.4, with another age 12-15 racer, Ethan Leonard of Stoddard, Wisconsin, runner-up in 1:25:28.2.
