Big hits abound in Tino’s win over Signs Unlimited
ISHPEMING — In what was termed as an “all-around great game from both teams,” Tino’s eked out a 20-18 victory over Signs Unlimited to keep its two-game lead in Class B of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.
Alex Forchini went 4 for 4 and Randi Roose and Chelsea Belanger each 3 for 4 for the winners, while teammate Natalie Amy had a home run and triple, Lauri Saldana a homer and double, and Sarah Zindler a triple and double.
In addition, Tino’s Amber Forchini was cited for “great defense,” while Sam Dymond hit a double and got credit for “great pitching.”
For Signs, Leah Dompierre and Shelley Malay each went 3 for 4, while Erin Terzaghi hit a homer.
And Malay was also cited for “great defense,” teammate Linda Dompierre for “great pitching” and Siri Lawson and Jill Sladek for “great offense.”
Also in “B,” Victoria Dishaw went 3 for 3 with an RBI double as Pineshears pulled out a 15-13 win over Palomaki Family Chiropractic.
The winners’ Livvi Denofre homered, Toni Tikkanen and Casey Duggan each tripled and Andrea Corcoran doubled.
For Palomaki, Mallory Pruett-Shank and Heather Smith each went 4 for 4 while Val Prusi collected a pair of doubles.
And Paradise Bar grabbed second place alone in “B” with an 11-2 win over Willey’s Tire Shop.
Paradise’s Kylie Tobias and Hailey Hytinen both had a homer and double, while Mariah Heard and Katie Mitchel each had a triple and double. And teammate Kathy Maynard was cited for “great pitching.”
Willey’s Jackie Korpi had an “awesome” RBI while Brooke Mitchell was credited with “great pitching.”
In the division’s other game, the Elks Lodge defeated Quality Car Care on forfeit.
In Class A, Morgan Carlson went 5 for 5 while Delany McLaughlin, who hit a triple, and Taylor Paquet each were 4 for 5 as River Rock pounded out a 20-16 win over Dave’s Collision-Jack’s, whose Libbie Doney tripled twice and Amanda Lotterman homered.
In another “A” encounter, Jordan Kowalski tripled and Jenna Wedgworth doubled as LaCosse & Associates pumped out an 8-5 triumph over Congress Pizzas, whose Amy Steele tripled.
The other two “A” games were forfeits, Barrel + Beam over Jasper Ridge Brewery and Pasquali’s over the Eagles.
