17 truly a lucky number for Iron Range leaders
NEGAUNEE — Division-leading Congress Pizzas and Tino’s each scored 17 runs in games Wednesday night to keep their advantages at two games apiece as the Iron Range Women’s Softball League reaches the late stages of its season.
Congress posted a 17-2 win over Dave’s Collision-Jack’s to improve to a perfect 10-0, two games up on Jasper Ridge Brewery and Barrel + Beam in Class A.
The winners’ Cassy Sandberg and Ashley Maki each went 4 for 4, while Dave’s-Jack’s Jordann Lori hit a triple.
In Class B, Tino’s found power throughout its lineup for a 17-10 triumph over Palomaki Family Chiropractic to improve to 9-1, two games ahead of Quality Car Care.
Tino’s Amber Forchini hit a pair of doubles, while Randi Roose and Aspen Tackman each homered. Teammates Paige Willey, Kassy Antilla and Lauri Saldana all had a triple, while Natalie Amy produced a double.
Palomaki’s Krystal Bergman went 4 for 4 while Kathy Gischia doubled.
In other “A” action, Erica Bjorne hit a double and was credited for making some amazing catches in the outfield as Jasper Ridge Brewery pulled off a 10-9 victory over Pasquali’s, whose Cheryl Kuzak tripled and doubled.
Terri Tammelin went 6 for 6 with a triple and double and Nicole Christensen 5 for 6 with a triple to lead Barrel + Beam to a 27-4 win over LaCosse & Associates, whose Nicolette Schultz, Olivia Letson and Lexi Pomplun all were 2 for 3, Schultz including a double in there.
Morgan Carlson homered and Alyssa Hill and Delany McLaughlin added a triple apiece as River Rock bombed out a 25-5 triumph over the Eagles, whose Chontel Woodbridge doubled.
In other “B” games, Katie Mitchell hit a pair of over-the-fence home runs while going 4 for 4 to lead Paradise Bar to the narrowest of victories, 14-13 over Pineshears.
The winners’ April Lawer was also 4 for 4 with a double, while teammate Jen Hytinen-Polkki was 3 for 3, Kylie Tobias hit a homer and Mariah Heard added in a triple.
Pineshears’ Toni Tikkanen hit a triple and a pair of doubles, Casey Dugan had a homer and double, Chelsea Roberts a triple and double, and Chelsey Wunder a homer.
Angie Juidici went 3 for 3 with a triple while Sandy Carlson was 3 for 4 as Signs Unlimited pulled off an 11-8 win over Quality Car Care, whose Katelyn Lammi homered and tripled and Joanna Smail tripled.
Courtney Beauchamp was 4 for 4 while teammates Tiana McLeod and Taylor Jackovich hit a homer apiece as the Elks Lodge posted a 23-15 win over Willey’s Tire Shop, whose Amy Williams was also 4 for 4 while Kristal Heikkinen and Karah Lawry both tripled.
