140 golfers help out 906 Warrior Relief Fund

K.I. SAWYER — Well over a hundred golfers participated at the 14th annual 906 Warrior Relief Fund golf fundraiser that was held at Red Fox Run Golf Course on Aug. 16.
While several four-person teams came out victorious, the real winner in this 140-golfer outing was the 906 Warrior Relief Fund, which netted $21,821 due to the event and related activities held by American Legion Post 349 of Little Lake, according to the Facebook website for the 906 Warrior Relief Fund.
Golf outing organizer Richard Wood said he was pleased with the participation and generosity of participants, not to mention others who helped that included the golf course, cooks and kitchen crew, volunteers, and others who worked behind the scenes.
The fund helps active duty military, National Guard, military reserve and veterans in the Upper Peninsula in times of crisis, one example being in a Mining Journal story from February when the fund helped veteran Mark Feldman of Champion replace key components in his residence after those parts of his house froze when he was out of town for two weeks during the winter.
In the general category for the golf outing, the winning team with a score of 58 was the 906 Sports Bar and Grill, which consisted of Marty Ghiardi, Jason Ghiardi, Joey Negrinelli and Danny Negrinelli.
The runner-up with 64 was Gwinn Insurance that included Dan Metlach, Bill Harrison, Brad Macario and Wayne Kevern, while in third place shooting 68 was VFW Post 5670 with Wally Kari, Bruce Novotny, Glenn Hintsala and Bob Fleury.
In the mixed division, winning with shooting a score of 60 was All Inn and players Jon Allen, Kathy Allen, Steve Govier and Dennis Hruska.
Second place with 71 went to Team Misterly that included Mike Misterly, Michelle Misterly, Justin Nyquist and Ethan Blaine.
The last-place team was also recognized, Team Dead A-Last, who consisted of Paul Makela, Ethel Sundberg, Tom Sundberg and Karen Saari.
Next year’s event is already being planned for Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026, back at Red Fox Run.
