Mitchell, Williams pace Willey’s in close victory
NEGAUNEE — Brooke Mitchell tripled and Amy Williams doubled to lead Willey’s Tire Shop to the closest victory of the week, 16-14 over Palomaki Family Chiropractic in Class B of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.
After all of last week’s league games were postponed, Willey’s evened its record at 4-4. Palomaki’s Katie Trudgeon went 4 for 4 while teammate Jenn Quayle was 4 for 5.
In other “B” action, Lauri Salana homered and Taryn Myers tripled as Tino’s remained atop the division with a 30-5 win over Paradise Bar, whose Hailey Hytinen hit a homer and Mariah Heard knocked out a three-base hit.
Connie Kontio and Lori Ring each went 4 for 4 as Quality Car Care rolled to a 14-4 win over Pineshears, whose Casey Dugan was credited with a diving catch at shortstop.
And Karlie Kargela was 3 for 3 and Becky Lee 3 for 4 as the Elks Lodge took a 19-4 whopping over Signs Unlimited, whose Leah Dompierre was 3 for 3 as Becky Gauthier was cited for great pitching.
In Class A, Jordan Wixtrom collected a triple and three RBIs while going 4 for 5 as Pasquali’s edged past Dave’s Collision-Jack’s 19-15.
The winners’ Cheryl Kuzak was 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs and Bethany Suomi 3 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs as Pasquali’s was cited for good offense and defense all around.
For Dave’s/Jack’s, Sinead Korvela hit a pair of doubles and collected three RBIs, while Jordann Lori had a triple, double and RBI, and Loretta Willey had a double and three RBIs.
Also in “A,” Ashley Maki was 5 for 5 and Katie Rankinen 4 for 5 as Congress Pizzas remained undefeated with a 19-5 triumph over the Eagles, whose Laycee Mattson was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Ciara Kangas went 5 for 5, Jess Harper 4 for 4 and Amber Emanuelson 4 for 5 as Jasper Ridge Brewery outscored LaCosse & Associates 25-6.
Jasper’s Dany Bleau and Annie Masuga hit homers, while LaCosse’s Rayna Warchock also homered and Lexi Pomplun tripled.
Ellie Miller homered and Jackie Skradski tripled to lead Barrel + Beam to a 15-5 victory over River Rock, whose Cooper Atkins homered and Kenzie Karki tripled.
